Four ways to wear a lariat

I love lariats because they are so versatile. You can make them more casual or more formal depending on how you wear them. Follow the link for descriptions of how to wear a lariat four different ways.

Looped: My favorite way to wear a lariat is to fold it in half then slip the ends through the loop. You can leave the ends more or less even as shown on the left, or pull one slightly longer for a more dramatic look. The texture of the beadwork keeps the lariat from slipping.

Knotted: This is probably the most common way to wear a lariat. Gently tie an overhand knot close to your neck for a fun, casual look. Tie it closer to the fringe for a more elegant look. Add drama by offsetting the ends so the drop appears longer, as shown on the left.

Note: This lariat is longer than shown. I pulled it up closer to the neck of the display bust so you could see the ends better.

Wrapped: Wrap the center around your neck like a choker and tie the ends together in a lose square knot for a casual look. If chokers make you uncomfortable, try this with a turtleneck or a collar to keep the wrapped center from getting tight. I wear mine like this with a white button-up shirt for a professional look.

Over the shoulder: Toss one end over your shoulder to wear it like a fun and funky scarf. Pin the lariat with a brooch where the two ropes cross to hold it in place. This look with an elaborate lariat would be stunning with an evening gown or wedding dress.
