- Spray starch in a small misting spray bottle. I bought a 33.8 oz refill of Best Press from my local quilt shop. It works well and I really like the unscented because I'm very sensitive to scents. I like the small bottle because it sprays a light mist of starch, and the small bottle is easy to keep in an organizer tray and out of the way.
- 28 mm rotary cutter. I wasn't sure if this would make much difference, and it does. It's so much easier to cut smaller shapes using the little cutter.
- Rotating rotary cutting mat. I saw a larger one at a quilt shop for about $50 and figured I would make do with a smaller non-rotating mat. Then I found this little one at Joann and used my 40% off coupon to get it for less than $10. They had it packaged alone or with an 18 mm rotary cutter, but they don't sell the 18 mm blades (not at this store, anyway). I bought the mat and cutter separately.
- From Marti Michell templates. I read a lot of good reviews and advice to try these templates, so I took the plunge and ordered the sets required. I'm not the most accurate at piecing, so I figured I could use all the help I can get! So far I love them. The From Marti Michell shop gave me a Farmer's Wife discount because I ordered all of the required templates, which brought the price down to about $85.
- 2.5" x 18" ruler. I happened to have this size already and it's the ruler I use the most. It's perfect for cutting strips from fat quarters to use with the templates.
- 6.5" square ruler. This ruler is really handy for checking my finished block size. So far, my blocks have been right on (thanks to Marti Michell templates!).
- Get your book spiral bound! This is probably the best $5 I've spent on this project. I liked it so much that I took all of my quilting books in to get a spiral binding. I had it done at Staples, but I think any office store or printing shop can do it.
